How to book the CITB HS&E test (2026): online, phone or group
Book the CITB HS&E test online through CITB's Pearson VUE booking site, or by phone on 0344 994 4488. It costs £23.50. Employers booking four or more people use CITB's group booking system. You can move or cancel for free online up to 72 hours before the test, but not after.
Before you book, check which version of the test you need. The CSCS card finder tells you which test goes with the card you are applying for: Operatives, Specialist, or Managers and Professionals.
Book online
This is the cheapest and most flexible way, because changes are free.
- Go to CITB’s booking page and follow the link to Pearson VUE, the company that runs the test centres.
- Create a Pearson VUE account if you don’t have one. Use your name exactly as it appears on your ID.
- Choose your test, then a test centre, date and time.
- Pay by card. The test costs £23.50.
- Keep the confirmation email. It has your test details and what to bring.
Book by phone
Call CITB’s booking line on 0344 994 4488. It is open 8am to 8pm Monday to Friday and 8am to midday on Saturday, and closed on Sundays and bank holidays. Phone bookings cost the same, but changing or cancelling by phone carries a fee (see below).
Booking for a team
If you are an employer booking four or more people, use CITB’s Navigator group booking system. You fill in a short form to get an account, then add each candidate, pick a venue and time, and pay by card. Voiceover and British Sign Language support can be booked in the same system.
CITB also offers a mobile testing service, where the test comes to your site or office. You fill in a candidate spreadsheet and a booking request, and payment is due at least 10 days before the test date.
Vouchers
You can buy a test voucher for £23.50 in advance, which suits employers paying for staff. Vouchers can only be used at Pearson Professional Centres, and a test paid for with a voucher can be rescheduled but not refunded.
Changing or cancelling: the 72-hour rule
Everything hinges on 72 hours before your test.

Common questions
Can I book the CITB test for someone else?
Yes. One person can book for up to three candidates through the standard online or phone route. For four or more, use CITB's group booking system.
Can I change my test date?
Yes, as long as it is more than 72 hours before the test. Online changes are free; changing by phone costs £5. Within 72 hours the booking can't be changed.
Do I get my money back if I cancel?
If you cancel online at least 72 hours before, you get a full refund. By phone you get the fee back minus a £10 admin charge. Cancel later than 72 hours before and there is no refund. Tests paid for with a voucher can be moved but not refunded.
What ID do I need?
The name on your booking must match your ID exactly. CITB's booking pages don't list the accepted ID types, so check the confirmation email from Pearson VUE.
